A painting of Ipswich Town Football Club’s Portman Road Stadium painted by artist David Downes is to be auctioned to raise money for the club’s Community Foundation. The Ipswich Star features an article about David, and pictures him standing beside his painting of Portman Road Stadium.
Autistic artist, David Downes, completed the detailed painting of the Portman Road Stadium and said how proud he was to help his ‘childhood club’ support others like him. The club engages with 9000 young people and vulnerable adults, through 29 programmes, and now provides sensory packs containing noise-cancelling headphones and fidget toys to help autistic supporters enjoy the game.
David has a gift for painting accurate depictions of places after visiting just once, was able to complete this painting in two and a half weeks, alongside running his art gallery in Manningtree, Essex. Though David has a photographic memory and completes much of his work from memory, in preparation for this piece, David visited Portman Road many times, to ensure he was doing the iconic stadium justice.
David’s painting will be sold at auction and the funds raised will go to Ipswich Town’s Community Fund. David, who is an ambassor of Autism Anglia says that he admires the club’s commitment to diversity and he finds it uplifting to be able to inspire others, particularly those with autism.
