The Tree Lined Walk, Green Lane, Mistley

There are certain places I find myself returning to again and again and “The Tree Lined Walk, Green Lane, Mistley” is one of those places.

The Tree Lined Walk, Green Lane, Mistley by David Downes

On the surface, it’s a simple path. A line of trees, a track worn by footsteps, nothing especially unusual. But the more time I spend there, the more it seems to open up. The trees fall into a kind of rhythm – almost architectural in their spacing – drawing you forward, while the canopy shifts the light into constantly changing patterns. It never quite looks the same twice. Shadows move, light comes and goes, and the whole place sits somewhere between stillness and movement. What I’ve tried to capture in the work is not just the look of the place, but the feeling of it – the structure, the balance between calm and change.

If you’ve been following my work, or perhaps have had your eye on a particular painting or print, I’m currently offering 20% off all original paintings, artwork and prints at the gallery in Manningtree until Easter weekend.

As always, thank you for taking the time to look – and for sharing these places with me.
